"It was a stroke of luck, which led us to Tony Vuolo at Mad Hatter Antiques. Initially we wanted to have one piece of furniture restored, but one job with satisfactory results led to another, and another, and each time Tony proved that he was flexible, resourceful, patient, and a master craftsman!! Tony has restored things as simple as a small table all the way up to a 1930's vintage phonograph (including getting the turntable to work again). He also restored the sterilizer cabinets for a recreation of a 1920's barbershop for us. These were not ordinary jobs, and Tony is no ordinary worker. He brought these old things back to life for us. He, himself, is a treasure!"
-Ralph & Ruth M., Paramus, NJ

"Providentially for me, Tony of Mad Hatter was there just when I needed him most to restore various family heirlooms of great (and not-so-great) value and significance. If he tells you he can do it you can count on him to do it right."
-W.G., Bergen County

"Great Service & Great Work!"
-Oradell

"My brother-in-law stood on the top of a toy chest that has been in our family for generations. The top cracked in half! I was devastated and thought it was a lost cause. Tony looked at it and gave me a fair price to repair and restore the piece. It looks better than ever. He has since beautifully restored another piece for us. Working with Tony is always a pleasure and I intend to use him for all my refinishing and restoration needs."
-Deborah G., Montclair, NJ

"Over the last almost 10 years Tony has repaired and restored much of our antique furniture. Some of our pieces are 17th and 18th century that we brought from Europe when we moved here 25 years ago. Some of our antiques we bought in the U.S. We are very fussy about the old patina of our furniture and don't want our old furniture to be stripped and refinished to look almost brand new (as so often is done!). Tony understood this and has done an outstanding job many times over. He has all the skills of an old-fashioned craftsman. We heartily recommend him to anyone who is serious about antiques."
-Bert & Atie D., Wyckoff, NJ

"We couldn't believe how much care was taken in the refinishing of our dining room table. The work was beautifully done; the color was impeccably matched. Tony Vuolo is the Stradivarius of furniture restoration!"
-George & Francie S., NJ

"The first time I met with Tony was to have him refinish a telephone table with an attached seat. It belonged to my paternal grandparents, was 85 years old, and had been painted blue and would have to be stripped down to the bare wood. I had visited quite a few businesses, but only felt comfortable leaving my heirloom with Tony. I had brought a drawer from an antique secretary that belonged to my maternal grandparents which was 80 years old. Since they would be in the vestibule of my new apartment together, I needed the stain to be exact.

When I saw the results, I could not believe this was the same piece of furniture I had brought in! The refinishing was perfect, the stain exactly what I asked for. I was amazed at Tonys' work!

Unfortunately, after my move, some of my antique pieces were damaged. Tony came to my home to fix the pieces that were damaged. He was able to restore most of the antiques in my home but had to take out one. He even brought it back the next week.

Tony is wonderful to deal with! He is quite an artist! I would never deal with anyone else."
-Dale, Hackensack, NJ

"The Mad Hatter has for many years wrought man-made miracles with my battered treasures. He restored a century-old music box, rotating Christmas Tree holder to working order, and my enjoyment and pride in this relic from my childhood is memorable and indescribable. Mad Hatter has restored many other more significant old pieces for me and for my family. I would entrust anything I own to the knowledge, skill, patience, and integrity of this thoroughly decent man."
-Irene H., Mahwah, NJ

"Tony did an outstanding job on two European antique pieces of furniture. He repaired them to my exact specifications and brought them back to life. The quality of his work is on par or even better than the true "artisans restorateurs" from Europe. His service is perfect. We highly recommend Tony's work."
-Bruno & Florence L., Cedar Grove, NJ

"Thank you for taking a long ignored family piece with great sentimental value and restoring it. You've brought the wood back to life and it brings a smile to my face and my heart."
-Jeanne D.

"I contacted Tony at Mad Hatter Refinishing after reading a number of testimonials from previous customers. I am very glad that I did! Outside of being an incredibly nice person, the work that Tony did, the service provided, and the guidance freely given were far greater than expected, even with lofty expectations after reading the testimonials. Tony is a true professional craftsman. His work is exemplary - he took an old, painted, hand-me-down bureau and turned it into an incredibly beautiful antique. Outside of the incredible sentimental value that this bureau has to me personally, I believe the piece is probably worth at least twice what it cost for the refinishing - worth every penny!

Tony clearly explained the entire refinishing process to me, gave options for each step, and provided insights and guidance. Between stages, I would visit Tony at his shop, and he would show me what he would be doing for the next stage. (Also, you should see some of the other projects he has going - impressive!) I cannot talk more highly about the final product - I love it! Through his circle of other craftsmen, he had an old brass lock repaired and a new skeleton key produced, which was the icing on the cake for the bureau. If you need an antique refinished, I wouldn't look any further than Tony. He is fantastic!"

"When my husband asked for Tony's help in surprising me on my birthday, who knew it would be the most precious gift I could ever receive? As a child I remember my father sitting at a rather small oak desk. He had just started a new job.a game warden for the State of New Jersey and a friend of his from his Sea Bees days had given him the desk to stay organized. Over the years the desk moved from one part of my parent's house to another and then, finally, it was taken the basement. My parents moved, my dad retired, and in an energetic moment Dad decided he would refinish the old piece. Sadly, he became ill with heart disease and the desk sat in his workshop never completed.

After many years I asked my mother if I could have the desk and it was moved to my basement where it resided unfinished for another ten years. Can you imagine the delight when Tony delivered it on my birthday - absolutely the most beautiful surprise of my life! Not only does Tony's superb workmanship come shining through but every time I look at the lovely little desk I have such wonderful memories of growing up and my parents. What a gift!

Tony's professionalism and his pride in his workmanship are amazing. There are several other pieces of furniture in our home that we will ask him to bring back to their former glory. He is the only craftsman I would ever trust with our treasures. He's the best!"
